• Founded in 1966 in Los Angeles, California, Dollar Rent A Car was originally called “Dollar A Day Rent A Car.” 
• The company’s first fleet of rental cars consisted of a few Volkswagen Beetles with manual transmissions and no air conditioning. 
• From the beginning, Dollar's philosophy has been to provide the public with a combination of the best service available in the industry at the most competitive prices possible. 
• In August 1990, Dollar was acquired by Chrysler and was made part of its Pentastar Transportation Group, Inc., along with Thrifty Car Rental and Snappy Car Rental in Tulsa (Snappy sold in 1994). 
• With 629 worldwide rental car locations in 52 countries, including more than 359 in the United States and Canada, Dollar serves value conscious consumers around the world.

• Although “dollars” are used in roughly two dozen countries, including the United States, Canada, Taiwan and New Zealand, it’s a word that is often misspelled. Some common misspellings and typos we encounter among those we serve include:
